Most Home Sales in 9 Years! US Homebuyers Rebound

This morning the Associated Press shared great news out of Washington DC regarding data received from The National Association of Realtors. They shared that home sales climbed up 14.7 percent last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.46 million. This news is fantastic as it follows on the heels of a reported national downturn in November sales due to the home lending industry’s adaptation of new mortgage disclosure rules taking effect.

Helping Atlanta Homebuyers

While home buying sales numbers overall haven’t reached the peak of 2008, they have steadily increased over the past few years. In 2015, there was an increasing demand for new homes in Atlanta and much of this activity was due to the return of more traditional buyers seeking to become new homeowners instead of continuing to pay rising rent costs. As we shared in our previous blog post, 2016 is projected to be a great year to buy a new home, possibly one of the best, before mortgage rates and associated costs increase. Various market analysts believe several factors are helping to increase the total number of Atlanta’s homebuyers – our healthy, expanding job market, Federal mortgage rates remain reasonably low (for now), and aging millennials moving up and out.
