Purchasing Agent (Estimator)

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of Purchasing Agent is to facilitate and coordinate material and labor takeoffs for master plan product types in an estimating database, while maintaining corresponding pricing bid sheets for the cost management software. Secondly, coordinating new plan prototypes and plan revisions in estimating database.

Position Requirements/Responsibilities:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in homebuilding and/or commercial construction
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. College Degree preferred
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
  • Possess good organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Possess clear communication skills both verbal and written
  • Effectively and efficiently handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Interact with people calmly and professionally so as to reflect a positive image for the company
  • Solve problems in a prompt manner with the ability to analyze and put together a plan of action
  • Handle stressful situations with a level head and low emotional level
  • Have a valid driver’s license in order to drive personal car or company vehicle from office to job sites
  • Hold the following certifications: Level A1 Georgia Soil Erosion Certification; Residential Building Contractor ( International Code Council)

Technical Requirements

  • Understand house plan drawings and specifications
  • Understand unit costing and quantity estimating of construction materials
  • Bachelor degree in business or 3-4 years residential construction experience in estimating or purchasing
  • General knowledge of all construction related activities involved with the construction of a home
  • Experience with cost management software and estimating software
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking, problem analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to solve problems and can handle decision-making
  • Possess excellent organization skills and planning
  • Ability to work independently and multitask

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to read blue prints and do “take-offs” is a plus
  • Carry or move objects without assistance as boxes or paper and/or office supplies and drawings weighing up to 40 lbs.
