Town squares often serve as the heart of a city. They bring neighbors together and draw local visitors to experience dining, shopping, entertainment, and local events. There are several notable town squares throughout the metro Atlanta area, but the favorite among them all happens to be minutes from our new home community of Mangêt.
Searching for Atlanta’s Favorite Town Square
In their Best of Atlanta poll, the Atlanta Journal Constitution recently set out to determine what readers deemed as the best town square in the metro Atlanta area. Last week they revealed their findings and announced Marietta Square took the title of Atlanta’s favorite town square. Roswell Town Square came in second, and Decatur Square followed close in third. Other nominees included Duluth Town Green, Historic Square at Stone Mountain Park, Lawrenceville Square, Snellville Town Green, and The Village Green in Smyrna.
The Charm of Marietta Square
What is it that sets Marietta Square apart from all of the other town squares across metro Atlanta? We think it’s a combination of the wide variety of unique retailers, dining destinations, and entertainment venues alongside the numerous events hosted in the square throughout the year. Here are just a few of the entertainment venues that make Marietta Square a popular tourist destination.
Earl Smith Strand Theatre
The Earl Smith Strand Theatre is the last remaining historic theatre in Cobb County. Each year, it hosts a variety of films, concerts, musicals, dramatic plays, and comedies for the public to enjoy. Make sure to check out the theatre’s upcoming holiday performances including Holiday Express: A Journey to New York City, the Christmas Royal Tea and Grand Yuletide Ball, A Christmas Tradition song and dance revue, and The Strand Ole Opry’s Country Christmas!
Marietta Museum of History
At the Marietta Museum of History, located on the second floor of the historic Kennesaw House, explore artifacts from the past in the General History, Homelife, and Military galleries. In the General History Gallery, you will find historic artifacts from Native American culture to the early gold mining industry to influential Marietta families and businesses. The Homelife Gallery displays antiques and vintage artifacts used in everyday life during the 19th and 20th centuries. Finally, you can view displays from the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and War on Terrorism in the Military Gallery.
Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art
The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art is the only fine art museum in metro Atlanta that focuses on American Art. Their collection features pieces dating from the 18th century to the present, with a rotation of new exhibits frequently on display throughout the museum. Art classes are offered at the museum for children, teens, and adults.
